Dental Hygiene

We recommend that all of our patients have regular appointments with our hygienist to help prevent the onset of gum disease or to slow down an existing gum weakness.

Gum Disease Treatments

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is a major cause of tooth loss in adults today. If plaque is left to build up it causes the gums to become swollen and bleed (gingivitis). If left untreated this can cause bad breath, loose teeth and gaps to open up between teeth, resulting eventually in the teeth getting painful and falling out.

What to expect

We know that if our patients see both the Dentist and Dental Hygienist on a regular basis (as well as completing the right homecare routines) you will have healthier teeth and gums - keeping you teeth in the right place for as long as possible.

Dental Hygienist Visits

For patients who smoke, have certain medical conditions (e.g. diabetes) or have had dental implants they should have more regular maintenance visits with the hygienist as these people may be more at risk than others.
The hygienist will advise you on the most effective and up to date methods of home cleaning and will thoroughly remove any plaque and debris from around your teeth during your visit.
